Game Freak release three games every cuycle (they physically can't get any more made in that time, every Gen that lasted 4 years still only saw three releases, as firstly they needed to delay DP a year to finish it, then after launching that, they took a year out to rest and hire more staff before going on to make Platinum and HGSS).
As you pointed out, the whos took BDSP, leaving GF to make Legends (their third game/content delivery of the Gen) and as there's STILL been no announcement of the director, nor has Ohmori appeared to claim credit, we can take that as meaning he's away working on the next game to be released and since his last project was three years ago, it's almost-assuredly going to be released within the next year, starting off a new Gen.
If people could shelve their biases, could look dispassionately at how Game Freak operate within any particular Gen, they'd understand how it all works.
