It really wasn't. It had a single interesting character but the entire rest of the story was just as poor as every other Pokemon game. Only gen 1 and 7 have legitimately good stories.

the dialogue in unova is dogshit and the themes they try to explore are done in such a one dimensional manner that I don't fully understand why they put on the facade that there are actually any themes at all. they literally interchange the two supposedly clashing concepts in the dialogue depending on what game you're playing.

Because the whole point of the games is that the concepts aren't clashing and fundamentally mean the same thing.

It does, yes, pokemon games don't have good stories so the less they have, the better. Unless they are offensively retarded like gen 8's.
Gen 5's issue is that it's just a long winded version of gen 3, which had been done twice already and barely changes anything anyway, just your generic end of the world legendary evil team plot, which is pretty crap in itself and super repetitive because every jrpg ends up like that.
Makes you miss simple stuff like the mafia organizations, which is why SM and its "Lusamine was a bitch who abused her kids " refreshing, since it's more down to earth.

Gens 3-6 and 8 all share this retardation and in the case of 3-6 they are basically the same just with more story because why the fuck not.
And if you do a story 3 times by that point, which isn't even good because pokemon stories aren't good, it's just a drag and gen 5 was really annoying with it.
In pokemon, a less is more approach actually works better.
