Just the overall Johto fever dream vibe they gave off. Yeah there was fuck all to do in them but at the end of the day they're just routes for catching Pokemon in just like any other route. I unironically liked the GS track redntions in the GBA soundfont too.

It sort of is when you consider their main purpose was providing a way to catch gen 2 Pokemon.
No other remake since has gone so far as to design a whole mini-region for the purpose of making newer gen Pokemon available.

They gave me the same feeling as getting to explore Kanto in GSC, where it's this entire new area that opens up after the E4 with a decent bit of new mons to find. They also had a lot of Johto mons that you couldn't get anywhere else in the GBA games, which made exploring kind of worthwhile.

Ever since LGPE dropped, it's been cool to hate FRLG because they need to overcompensate for the fact LGPE only has 153 Pokemon, Gym Leader/League Rematches, Master Trainers and Red/Green.

Is there any fangames that focus or at least expand on the Sevii Islands? There's legitimately a lot of lore around these islands that are just... there. Like the Steelix grave or Sevault Canyon.

That's because the other remakes do it better:
HGSS has the Johto safari zone
ORAS has the DexNav
BDSP has the Grand Underground
All of which are much better ways to obtain mons outside of the regional dex.
