Which is weird since they consistently show Poliwhirl and Poliwrath as shooting water from the center of their stomach spirals instead of their mouths like Poliwag does.

poliwrath's original sprite makes it the most obvious a mouth is supposed to be there. I blame sugimori's revisions not only for concealing the mouth too much but also for making both pokemon look overly similar
