pokemon pop into existence as things are made. People think about it hard enough and a new pokemon species is born. Pokemon can be manmade like porygon. Legendary and Mythical pokemon are only legendary and mythical because people havent seen or heard of them. When you catch a Mew ingame and are seen walking around with it, more Mew spring forth from the people's collective conscience directly into the wilds

Real life started on real Earth aproximately 3.5 billion years ago. Humans (Homo sapiens) appeared between 200k and 300k years ago.
Taxonomy and life classification as we scientifically understand them today first began in 1758 with ONE man. Ecology studies first began substantial development in the 18th century.
Why would it be any different in the pokémon world? They clearly took inspiration from real life research. And /vp/ never stops being dumb and uncultured.

Pokémon started off like some kind of sci-fi adventure setting and it turned into a fantasy setting since Gen 3, and they were slowly retconning everything pertaining its futuristic part. How they managed to hold it together surpasses me.
Also Charles Darwin was English.

because that fits the time-line and spread of the development of IRL taxonomy and biological knowledge, and if you adjust it to a world where 150 species are known in 1996, then 30 species having been discovered in the late 1700s kinda makes sense.
you do get the impression from the first few games that Pokémon "research" proceeds at an astoundingly slow rate. Elm is shitting his pants at Mr Pokémon's discovery of a single egg, but most kids figure out how to use the Daycare to print out however many eggs they want.

in short, I think it's supposed to be comical and a a little bit tongue-in-cheek, anon

I think I may prefer it too, if only because information from this book showed a modicum of thought. It sucks if the interview with Maduda shown in the video really did boil down to them saying who cares or they don't think about it. I mean, it's not surprising considering what Pokemon has become, but that doesn't make it any less disappointing.

I think 1 makes the strongest case for this being possible - it’s likely people were familiar with many different Pokémon, but the internationally-recognized system for scientifically classifying and describing them wasn’t introduced until later. Hell, the Ancient Greeks probably had some kind of “type system” that was just completely wrong but made sense to them at the time.

However, it's proven canon that when a confused pokemon tries to attack. 3-6 canaries materialize out of thin air to have a chance of redirecting a pokemon to hit itself, before disappearing into thin air
