ILCA were making their first-ever game and there's enough oldfags at both Game Freak AND Nintendo to realise how shitty a devcycle Game Freak had with Gen I (and suddenly moving out of their comfort zone, regarding game development). They couldn't risk ILCA *not* having the game ready for christmas, much less delaying it till 2022 so made sure they could physically get games on shelves for launch, then patch in what's missing (thanks to the other two memeboxes and their pet devs, day one patches are now acceptable to normies).
Game Freak don't work to the "oh we can patch it" ethos, yet another perk of not copying the zoomie-era mentality regarding game development.
