>>49177428I hate is when people talk about how "dark" The Pokémon Adventures manga is because Blue's Charmeleon bisected Koga's Arbok. That scene isn't even all that dark considering Arbok regenerates soon after. People laud this scene as to how "Pokémon can be dark and mature" when that's just wrong. There are genuinely very dark scenes in the series that are never brought up such as Norman physically abusing Ruby, Giovanni killing 2 Magmar, Giratina nearly killing Diamond with Shadow Force and more. Those are actual dark moments in the series that are important to the narrative. But they do not define the series. At the end of the day Pokémon Adventures is about the journey and the bonds shared between the protagonists and their Pokémon and the trials and tribulations that come with that. Those dark moments do not dominate the series.
Like recently with the season finale to Hawkeye a lot of people are complaining that Kingpin will never be as "dark" or "brutal" as he was in the Netflix series and that was what made him so fearsome.
This is just patently false. Kingpin's true power was always his planning and connections. His ability to have you killed in scenarios you least expect and his influence over institutions that are supposed to keep you safe is what made him terrifying. Everyone points to the car door scene as "peak Kingpin" when that just wrong. Kingpin is very much a violent man but as he said "I'm not cruel for cruelty's sake". Kingpin's true power in the MCU has always been his ability to use his vast resources to extort, threaten and harm people.
It is just beyond frustrating to see people act like they understand a character or story based off one scene and then get all bitchy when their shallow, incorrect notions are proven wrong by the narrative.
I could make this a wider rant about how the majority of people have shit critical thinking skills and thus equally shit media analysis but that's for another day.
