Are legendaries and mythicals completely separate now? Or are all mythicals legendary pokemon, but not all legendaries mythical pokemon?

I've been trying to discuss pokemon like celebi and mew among other pokemon like mewtwo and dialga and shit. But they're newer to the series and I don't want to inundate them with tons of nomenclature that makes it hard to follow when you already are learning ~1000 pokemon and their variations. But at the same time, I don't want to give them incorrect info.

Offcially, they were always seperate in japanese media, and since gen 5 in the english media. In practice mythicals are the same as legendary but obtainable only from events, some became available in-game but apperently never lost this title.
They are seperate and neither is a subset of the other. In SwSh site they told us all legendries were back, but some mythicals weren't.

No, they're just separate categories.

They'll have to get there eventually if they want to partake in the discourse(I mean this fanbase doesn't give a shit about the actual content of the franchise, but at that point they might not even learn the names of the mons). Its not hard to learn anyways, its an easy distinction.
