It has been implied before that Gamefreak has 2 teams, one that works on new gens while the other team works on remakes and remixes or just assist,

In US/UM for example their secondary team had some more control.

With LOA being developed by team A, and BD/SP being outsourced, its possible that they had more faith in team B and decided to give them a shot at a new Gen, unless they are working on Sharper Sword and Thicker Shield.

whether they actually do this probably depends on how soon they want to shit out gen 9
I really hope they do it if only for the extra dev time, but gamefreak obviously thinks about money more than quality

There is no A Team. There is no B Team. There's only teams that change every single game.
A recent interview regarding SWSH has revealed every single project is a Newbie Team Project to give them experience for future projects (even though there are no projects that aren't helmed by the Old Guard and a new Newbie Team, thus meaning that learning experience is going nowhere).
It also explains why the games are so brutally simple, it's literally the first time some or most of the staff team involved has ever touched game development or 3D game development. They keep it simple to make the workload easier on them to get them eased in.

It's probably SWSH2 and not Gen 9. There'll absolutely be a new game for the holidays, but they might not go all the way and start a new gen. There's going to be some kind of presentation during February (right before the Manaphy offer ends I presume?) where they'll be talking about the following things for sure:
- BDSP being updated with wonder trades.
- Pokemon HOME having BDSP and Legends compatibility added.
Whatever is coming after Legends is going to be something that makes use of the added compatibility, because I don't think they're gonna add compatibility for new Legends mons to enter BDSP, and Legends will have a very small Pokedex limiting its usage of the compatibility as well. In my mind, and I could well be wrong, I think an updated SWSH with more Pokemon including new Pokemon from Legends is the most feasible project that could be released Holiday 2022. Gamefreak developing an entirely new game in tandem with Legends development and releasing it 10 months later? It really does seem preposterous, even with the low quality of their recent efforts. Then again they did make Little Town Hero in tandem with SWSH, so who knows.

i don't think the A/B paradigm exists anymore. if we assume A team is your recognized names – i.e. the names we recognize, like morimoto and so on – then we know masuda 'broke off' to manage BDSP, and according to interviews apparently sugimori is managing the mobile gacha game. i think senior staff who were formally doing real work as A Team have self-promoted themselves into a position of senior management which, for our purposes, is impossible to differentiate from being semi-retired. think of tajiri. nobody seems to understand what role, if any, he still plays.. masuda and sugimori, at least, seem to have put in enough time to get to also reach this role of cryptic functionality

i.e. several core members A Team promoted themselves out of doing real work. those who didn't probably are now managing/training the former B Team.

what might've been the catalyst for this is the absolutely failure of little town hero. since it did so shit, the expenses/logistics of managing two separate teams at the same time where one team works on profitable pokemon games, and the other team continues to just make a fucking mess that nobody cares about, no longer makes sense, and they scrapped it.

Honestly the evidently rushed production cycle make me wonder if ILCA were never part of the plan and covid fucked things up
Tbh I'd rather Legends gets an expansion to flesh it out than it gets released and ignored, the game has a lot of potential but GF'S first versions never live up to said potential

He was the art director IIRC not the Lead Pokemon Designer. Hell, the only Gen 8 Mon he did was the G-Ziggy line and of course, ObstaGooner (and their shinies).
Seriously, I'm not exactly a fan of the guy's work, but if you're gonna criticise, you should critique things he's actually responsible for than using him as a scapegoat for your issues with the modern pokemon designs. He was in charge of the artwork.

I don't believe that the A and B team theory is true. If you look at the credits of GF games released in the same time period, you can see a lot the same names on both games. It's more likely that GF is working at multiple games at the same time

The very fact Ohmori isn't directing this game means the main team are working oin Gen IX kid. Just as the main team works on ALL new Gen games (your precious Morimoto won't let anyone but him make the battle engine and he won't listen to anyone too zoomie than him, so that means it needs to be someone from before the great expansion in Gen IV which means all the usual suspects are working on it).
And the DLC was the rehash version, you simple fucker. They only spent a few minutes of the introduction talking about how they used to make rehashes, but they were making DLC for SS instead, then they went and bundled the game and content (like they sold the rehash versions) for christmas market (again, like the rehashes of the past).

Unironically I'd prefer a version of Sword/Shield that doesn't suck for 60 dollars compared to two smaller okay experiences and an awful main one for 90 dollars. Or, to split the difference, a smaller stand alone game for 30.
