I hate how Gen 6 introduced Sky Battles, because it ruined all flying Mons by forcing nearly all of them to have a stupid permanent flying animation, effectively making them look worse.

Corviknight is a perfect example of idle flying ruining a pokemon. It's supposed to be a massive intimidating bird that becomes terrifying when it spreads its huge wingspan to make move against its target. At least there's no Corviknight porn.

Braviary was designed intentionally to fly before the Sky Battle animation rework.

I like the idea of flying/levitating mons all flying/levitating so you get the visual of things like earthquake not hitting them, but a lot of the flying animations are janky and a lot of things that aren't immune to ground moves appear to be floating too

Sky Battles didn't do shit, if flying Pokemon were made to fly specifically because of the mode, then there wouldn't be weird random exceptions like Chatot, Pidgey, and Farfetch'd. What's more than is that they made the idles, saw that a ton of them flew, and then incorporated Sky Battles to take advantage of that.

You mean like how Chatot, Pidgey and Farfetch'd are all exempt from Sky Battles?
Sky Battles are exclusive to the flying/levitating mon that have animations to work with it. For that reason, flying types that stand on the ground and levitating mon that stand on the ground are not eligible. As a result it leads to weird cases like Gengar being ineligible despite having levitate or Gyarados being unable despite not displaying the ability to fly in anything other than the Pokemon Adventures manga

More than likely strikes me as they had an amazing idea...for one whole game and didn't flesh it out. Which, considering XY's history and the implications in home that another pair of Kalos games were planned I'm willing to bet Sky Battles were supposed to stick around longer but just got shitcanned along with the rest of Gen 6
Feels criminal to not at least have flying types use their ground based idles for a bit and THEN start flying or something

Those idles are used when you interact with them in amie/refresh/camp and while they're resting when following you (at least in SwSh).

I think the real reason was to not confuse kids. For example, if Charizard was standing on the ground, kids would not understand why earthquake doesnt work and so on. Its a retarded reason but fitting for a retarded company like game freak.
