First off, that's not totally confirmed. You'll get points for each task the dex gives you and these points will be used to raise your ranks and progress through the story. Obviously, you won't need to complete every single task, only a few of them, as is the case for every RPG.
Also, this game Will make catching much faster, since you don't even need to enter a battle. So catching a lot of Pokémon will be much quicker and less annoying.
Honestly if you don't like PLA gameplay, you won't really like the gameplay of any of the other games in the franchise.
