Basically, all you've told me is you spent hours doing something to get your Pokemon EV trained, but it wasn't grinding because you were having fun. You could EV train a Pokemon in fucking minutes in certain games (Gen 6's hordes come to mind). All that's changed is now it takes longer but is more fun. That's not easy, that's just making you forget how much time you actually spent.
