1. Geodude is stronger than Onix (by a sizable margin btw), and both are on Brock’s team.
2. They can be balanced by levels the Pokemon are at. Their stats/moves are so weak that the stats barely make a difference too.
Dragonite Wrap vs. Charmander: 3-4 (13 - 17.3%) -- possible 5HKO after trapping damage
Onix Wrap vs. Charmander: 2-3 (8.6 - 13%) -- possible 6HKO after trapping damage
So Brock could literally have a Dragonite (Pokemon with the highest Atk in the game) as his ace, and the only thing that changes is that all the starters are screwed and Mankey is no longer useful
3. Onix isn’t just a boss Pokemon like Eternatus-Eternamax, since you can still catch them. And being a building size snake monster that beat Pikachu in the anime.
4. Misty using Starmie is fine apparently despite being the second “boss”.
5. Onix did not get an evolution until Gen 2, while Geodude did
6. Onix becomes a “boss” Pokemon again in the same game as 2 of Bruno’s Pokemon.
