>>49192695>Normal people don't make stupid associations like thatYes they absolutely do. You're speaking as a Pokemon nerd and a nerd in general, you're not a normal person. Thus, the artistic validity is being stretched - like sticking a butter churn in a modern day setting. They exist, but are they what is commonly characteristic of the era?
>they took a fucking history lesson in schoolWhat grade schools teach about the history of screws?
I hope there is a segment in this game about that deals with this lore- about technological advancements, and the higher appearance of such pokemon as a result. Again, these pokemon may have existed before, but should have been rare due to the equally rare commercially produced electricity. Pokémon like Pikachu exist as creatures of the elements, of the natural electricity within living bodies and the lightning in the atmosphere, but pokemon like Magnemite that formed in the design of artificial constructs should only be a new and rare discovery.
And Magnemite absolutely should not be an ancient pokemon. 19th century at the earliest.
And in my opinion, all this junk about pokemon existing before the 20th century is garbage in the first place. They should have remained as what gen 1 touted - new discoveries that scientists like Oak were only just learning about, something that only came up over the last century or two. I headcanon them as fusions of elemental spirits and the power of the digital era.
As the years go on, the lore continues to get stretched so more stories for more anime or games can be made in more settings as their creativity runs dry. They can jump through hoops to make everything fit, but it sacrifices the original potent atmosphere and artistic quality.
