The inconsistency was really jarring.
Why should Opal and Rihan get them, when Milo gets a fucking eldegoss, and Nessa's Drednaw is just a standard dyna? Piers having a deliberate reason for not wanting to dynamax is okay, although the reason isn't really fleshed out enough. That's splitting hairs though, because most of the characters and story points in Swsh aren't fleshed out.
The point I was going to make is that Leon should have been given a galarian gigantamax pokemon, unused by the other leaders, such as Toxtricity, or maybe Coppreajah, given that Leon is based on a paki-brit anyway. The whole game used gen 1 as a crutch, with charizard being the excruciating personification of that reality. I don't even remotely dislike gen 1, and I get how some pandering is sensible with regards to keeping the franchise going, but it's like they had no confidence in their creations and just resorted to coasting.
The whole game was disappointing and low-effort, but character and pokemon design was at least an area where they put a modicum of work in. I would have been more than happy for Leon to have a Toxtricity. I'm sure japs would still have bought the toys. Toxel is cute enough too.
