>>49199266Unironically Gen 2 would be better if the RAGECANDYBAR guy blocked you from entering Mahogany. Gives you the ability to explore Mt. Mortar a bit but doesn't make the entire Lake or Rage area available, pacing it out a bit better. And it's not like they were opposed to arbitrary barriers like that, otherwise RAGECANDYBAR guy wouldn't exist.
>>49199301I don't mind the Pokemon variety in the wild dropping off so much, at a certain point you do have most of your team set and the only reason to catch new Pokemon is if you need just one more to fill a role or have somebody that's not carrying their weight, and having a few options for higher leveled Pokemon of the same species isn't necessarily bad. The problem is the trainers abide by the same rules more or less, which makes most random trainers boring. It also doesn't help that Gen 1 random trainer team design was "two or three of the same Pokemon, maybe one different one or just an evolved stage or the other team member". Like, we can shit on later games for having less Pokemon on random trainer's teams, but they try not to repeat themselves in the same battle unless it's the Magikarp guy. No game is perfect, and it's good to look at where things aren't perfect to see where they can be improved. Like, I dunno if most of Johto being underleved is necessarily a bad thing, but I will say the EXP economy in the Kanto segment of GSC is a fucking disaster. If you want me to get into what the fuck I mean by this, I'd love to.
