I've yet to see a different fanbase consider the actual product as disposable and pushing their own headcanon as the fact.
Generally, when misinfo spreads in other fanbases, its either people not being malicious and, when they are, they AT LEAST bother pretending an official source exist.

Then there's also the absolutely ridiculous and contradictort misconceptions about game developing that flow around.

Pokemon fans are usually autistically bad and the ones that are sane enough to call out Game Freak's newer dogshit games usually just leave the community outright, on the other hand the fans that come here act much worse because they refuse to play any other game and proceed to complain when their destructive behavior is not excused by normal people (discord spammers, furshitters, pedofags etc.).

In Sonic's case, yes. Canon is such inconsistent bullshit that people have to devise their own headcanons and rewrites to let the stories make any bit of sense.
Anyone that gives even a remote fuck about Tails knows that they completely wiped out his character development and turned him into a flanderized sniveling fuck that can't do a thing without Sonic in Sonic Forces, but also insist on having characters and context from the games where he grew out of that reliance on Sonic and learned to stand up for himself and take matters directly into his own hands.
