Something is clearly wrong at game freak. I don't think this is because of any one person, not masuda or omori, something is just wrong with the internal workings of this company- this shit really doesn't make any sense otherwise

Could it be that GameFreak always sucked, HGSS and BW2 (especially PWT) ate hard carried by nostalgia, and Pokemon has too large an audience to please everyone so they're choosing to focus on the core demographic, which is children?

nah, you've gotta remember two things:
1. time discounting - better to have $1000 today than $1050 in a year (assuming you can beat a 5% return elsewhere)
2. the only obligation of the company is to deliver value to shareholders.
if running the company into the ground now gives the shareholders more time-discounted value than running things properly, well, that's their obligation. boy isn't the way we've run things since the 1980s really clever and not insane at all?

Maybe not "wrong", but they're definitely in "corporate autopilot mode", they're just pumping shit out with the minimum amount of effort because they know they can.
The only way the franchise is ever going to improve is if one of the mainline games absolutely bombs AND all the merch stops selling simultaneously, AND they're totally out of Pikachu plushies to sell due to, I don't fucking know, their factories all simultaneously implode.
Just gotta do what I do and face the music that the series is just going to keep going on this path forever, no matter how many *illions they make.
