I have a legitimate belief that there is a large amount of Evangelion influence in Pokemon. Mew is the progenitor life-form of all Pokemon, a species separate from humanity, and it takes the form of a fetus. This parallels Adam's role in Evangelion. Mew is also cloned into a more powerful, but unstable being in Mewtwo, who is bound in armor to control the overwhelming power it holds, just like the Evas. I'd argue the Kaworu/N comparisons are very notable as well. Kaworu is a human with the soul of an Angel, N is a human with the soul of a Pokemon. There's obvious parallels in their designs and philosophies. Lots of smaller things also apply, like the design/pose of Nidoking's official art falling directly in line with Unit 01, and most of the events of Sun/Moon and Lillie's family seem to mimic the events of Evangelion.
