Imagine if the main gameplay for BOTW was filling out the Hyrule Compendium, your only method of combat was rolling and throwing bombs, and if BOTW's Hyrule wasn't even actually open world.
Shit, even lower budget games like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 blow this out of the water in every aspect I can think of, XB2 had an 80 hour story with full VO in an absolutely massive, sprawling set of playgrounds AND a stupidly complex combat system to cap it off.
Maybe Pokemon isn't "complete garbage" if you stick it next to other actual garbage games like SWSH, but if you realize for a second most people play more games than Pokemon, you'll easily understand why so many people from so many places are rightfully trashing PLA and the series as a whole.
