The Original Dragon is the most "legendary" legendary in the series. We know more about the God of the Pokemon Universe itself than it. We can only guess what it could be from it's remnants but maybe, it could something different entirely. Such a mysterious being.

Not confirmed, plus it could also be possible the "comet" was just Kyurem being expelled from Resh and Zek and crashing in Giant Chasm.

What bothers me is when people draw fanart of the original dragon they just mash them all together instead of designing a cohesive dragon from scratch. Zekrom and Reshiram are supposed to be opposite ends of two extremes

It was confirmed by both Ghetsis and Dryden that Kyurem is just a remnant of the split. It's basically just like Shedinja in that sense, a shell of the body but not the creature itself.

Is anyone else not satisfied by any of the fan artist takes? Something feels off, like there's something missing which should be obvious but isn't.

YES modern Kyurem is an empty shell and I literally made the same Shedninja comparison as well right here >>49210656 however when you fuse kyurem with zekrom the fusion is called black kyurem implying that the original pokemon was also called kyurem.

I feel like a lot of fan takes roll with the Kyurem form idea and splice together elements of the dragons when in reality it'd be something way different with minor elements of all three.

I didn't see your post till after, was looking through all the designs, ironically Masuda liked that one on his Twitter.

What I hate about Kyurem simply being the OD is that GF could've just come up with a single forme for it. Maybe in the beginning it could've gone that way, but now they may as well introduce something new. The Kyu fusions are incomplete and kinda forced, N implying that the other dragons were in actual pain, so maybe there's a better way.

At this point everyone's willing to believe they were the Gen 1 Eeveelutions. That aside, I do think they're pretty legendary in their own right, though they don't have the enigmatic status of the original dragon where there's an entire prophecy about it.

Because it's intentional, it's like how the regi brail says "we sealed that Pokemon away, alone in the dark. We feared it." when "that" and "it" refer to a single Pokemon.
