The way battles work is totally different. Gameplay flow and progression will also be different. Stats have been revamped to work with the new battle mechanics as well. You can say it looks generic but there are quite a few differences from previous games.

Is it? It looks identical except there's no loading screen before the battle. Which is nice but hardly revolutionizing gameplay
Looks like there are a few overworld combat mechanics too with the player, but they just look shit. If I wanted to fight with my human player character I wouldn't play Pokemon lol

I have no doubt Legends will be a hot mess, but I'm hoping it's only a trial run to see what works and what doesn't work, and the good parts will be used going forward in the real games.
