>>49233247As someone who bothered to watch all of Johto. I don't get how you can call Johto good and then in the same breathe, act like AG is worse. At least with AG, you know what you're getting, AG may also get boring like Johto, but at least its shorter, have new characters, introduces new gimmicks like the contest battles. Plus, the Battle Frontier part is pretty fun.
With Johto, there are some very good episode, but its clear from the very beginning that its filled with lost potential, and the writers having no clear idea what to do with the series, so you just get filler after filler with the same repetitive scenario playing out (Ash and co meet X, with X Pokemon, then Team Rocket does their motto, then "Go Team Rocket shitmons", then they blast off again). It isn't just the GS Ball. Despite the fact that the anime sets up Gary as being the main rival whose upped his game, and they introduce Casey as a sort of foil to Ash and clearly was meant to be more prominent, they only show up for a total of 6 other episodes. You think they would have at least appeared more often, they only had 100 episodes worth of filler to go through. It does get better near the end of Johto however. Imagine getting yourself hyped from the first 3 episodes only to realize that the next hundreds of episode is just gonna be boring episodic filler.
The thing is that the filler episodes are some of the best and funniest part of the Johto seasons, like the Gligar Superhero ep, Delibird ep, Flaming Moltres ep, or Pidgey flying to the moon ep. The Gym battles are honestly not that great, with the worst being Pryce Gym Battle. Problem is that the best part of the Johto anime involves having to waddle through some really boring filler.
