Aside from when I was a little kid playing Crystal and subsequently Ruby, probably Pokemon Prism. It really made me feel that sense of wonder and discovery that I felt back in the day, and everything felt astonishingly "on-brand" to vintage Pokemon.

Colosseum was also right up my alley when I was ten years old, so that's a possible answer, too. I've got a lot of fond memories of rushing home to play it.

Red and Blue when it first came out. Trading with kids everywhere I go, playing on the bus, constantly talking about it and everyone I knew was into it. Life revolved around Pokemon for 2 years straight and they may very well be some of the best times of my life. Sneed.

Explorers of Sky. Mainline just can't compare.
For mainline games only, it was the Eternal X romhack because mainline games are just shit without hacks. Buffel Salt's hacks do a good job raising the difficulty while keeping minimax autism to a minimum and allowing plenty of team variety. Being able to choose pokemon you like is a big plus

I did some Nuzlockes a while back with random encounters and types, where I'd give my best shot at a shitty Paint rendition of each Pokemon I found. It was like making my own dex of terrible regional forms, was really fun
