Not really a thread to debate if the physical special split was good or bad, that seems like it would be a never ending circle jerk, rather, who are some noteable winners and losers of the split? Easy ones that come to mind are Gengar, Absol, Breloom, Gyarados for winners

Winners and losers of the split is the smoothbrain take.
Most attackers were winners, tanks were losers because of power creep.
Natures and EVs were what made the game require the split in the first place, since it forced you to specialize.

Shiftry and Cacturne are losers simply because their stats and movepools are so fucking garbage to begin with that a system designed to save them just didn't help at all

Sceptile is one of those cases where a Pokémon's signature move no longer goes off of its highest attack stat and the majority of the Pokémon's movepool uses the Pokémon's lower attacking stat.

Game Freak is still giving it physical moves.

It's easy enough to say that the split was good for many Pokemon offensively, bad for others offensively, and bad for several others defensively. For instance, both Hitmonchan couldn't really use its elemental punches pre-split the way it can now, though by contrast Alakazam doesn't want them anymore when it used to love them. Aggron having two easily-exploited double weaknesses wasn't so bad when they all had to go through its 180 Defense, but suddenly Earth Power and Focus Blast exist and it just keels over without Sturdy.

Gen III and III Dark-types are obvious winners.

Honestly, the biggest problem with the pre-split system was that Dark was Special and Ghost was Physical. It should've been the other way around. If they had literally done just that, then there probably would've been no need for the Physical/Special split.

How is stating a fact bait? Game Freak keeps giving what is now a special attacker more and more physical moves despite it being a special attacker.
