Humans in Pokemon are just tougher apparently. For example how you can fall several stories in the holes in the burned mansion without hurting your legs. Or how the fans in Skyla's gym in BW2 can slam you through wooden crates so hard they break into splinters.

Tbf he steps up to save the region because his town is the only one not being rampaged by wild dynamax pokemon. I think he also wants to get to know the MC better because he wants to see what kind of people his sister is hanging out with
