The evolution stones are the only problem here, the others are either not problems or are intentional for the ultimate benefit of the player. The level curve feeds into the narrative, you don't have to grind for anything, ESPECIALLY Red, and new Pokemon being locked to the postgame means there's always something new to discover, right up to Mt. Silver. It's not like these don't have downsides, but they're very clearly intentional design choices which they obviously don't feel need to be fixed, or else they would have done so in HGSS.

Red is a different beast in Gen 2 vs Gen 4. In Gen 2 you can crush him at level 40, whereas in Gen 4 he’s still a challenge in the mid 60s.

In my most recent playthrough I had a fucking Scizor, and Steelix before I even hit Jasmine and also got a Slowking once I had the convenience to go grab the King's Rock. Shit I even had a Dragonite before taking on the E4 and got a Gengar stupid early. Oh and before you say:

Why are wild pokemon in the post game level 15-25? It's ridiculous and getting the stones requires a lot of rng. I've played these games many times and I've only ever gotten a stone from a trainer once. They are not perfect like every other game in the series. Again man just send an egg over. I get why you want this but they had to shove SOME new Pokemon in the postgame. Gen 2 isn't the first gen to do this, it just catches the most shit for it since the postgame is an old region which isn't exactly fair. There are newer gens that shove FAR more new Pokemon into the postgame than gen 2 did or worse, give the Pokemon such a stupid high evolution level that you couldn't use them even if you wanted to.

Johto is unironically one of the hardest regions. Even without nuzlocking I always dread having to face Whitney's Militank and Morty's speedy Gengar. Johto has better gyms than most other regions and I'm tired of pretending it doesn't just because some faggot went on Bulbapedia and saw Pryce's team.

Yeah, that illustrates the problem, the levels just kinda slow and plateau near the 40's. As you can see, Kanto has a similar problem for the midgame, but a lot of it is optional. Not to mention, the huge spike that is Red makes it a bit of a pain to add team members, especially in Kanto where the average level of the wild Pokemon isn't great. It's not a major issue, personally, but I can see how it would turn somebody off.

Not really, at least for that extended amount of time. Black 2 is nearly a straight line, Platinum is spikes near the end, and Emerald is similar but with a lower level. I feel like including Kanto in the calculation might make Johto seem worse than it is though, I imagine there's a lot more trainers in their 40's in that part of the game. Maybe if instead the levels were calculated based on the point they are in the game that would also help? If you want, here's a couple statistical analysis of other games, the JRPGs should provide you with some ideas.

GSC Red is easy enough, something tanky like Umbreon can help take down a lot of pokemon, and Pikachu is a non-factor.
HGSS Red is a different story. Red has a lot of hard-hitting stuff like Volt Tackle Light Ball Pikachu, 100% accuracy Blizzards due to Hail, Giga Impact, Flare Blitz, and more. Tanking is a lot harder, but not impossible. A good strategy is more important than levels, and if you're struggling so bad you can still grind with the buffed E4 rematches.

Zard, Pikachu, Lapras, and Snorlax can be easily handled with rock/ground/fighting coverage. Venusar is a nonissue and can easily be manhandled by your flying type or typhlosion. Blastoise can also easily be taken out by an electric or grass type.
IN HGSS you get access to choice times, leftovers and you can get rid of the hail with rain dance or sunny day.
You have to play a bit smarter than just click super effective move or spam potions until he runs out of PP.

Yes, but Kanto has a very large number of awful samey encounters on the left and right paths to Fuchsia, not to mention a similar problem in Silph Co. Both are very easy to skip major portions of with little effort, but if you do want to go through both it feels about as bad as the Rocket slog in Johto but with even less variance and longer. The level curve itself isn't the end all, it's how it's used alongside the trainers themselves.

Not him but I think stones should be purchasable like they were in RBY. There's no reason to gate them behind any kind of RNG or mini-games (which you can then only buy on certain days of the week) when there's built-in balance to stone evos with the evolved Pokemon not learning any more moves naturally. I'm not gonna say you should be able to buy them in the first town, but I think RBY had it right, around mid-game when your Pokemon are in their mid 20s or so.

Even just varying the Pokemon pools helps a bit. Like, I get Gen 1's problem, they cut like 40 Pokemon and even among the 150 left only some of them were meant to be used by the average trainer, mostly for lore reasons. Gen 2 is a bit better about this but when you're spending a good chunk of the game fighting just Rocket Grunts the repetitiveness gets to you. Nah, HGSS is mostly fine, if it needs anything it's just a few tweaks that could be done with a romhack rather than a full remake (although the HP drain from the Gen 4 engine is kinda shit). It's not like DP where even with Platinum it needed a good remake to make the engine not shit. Shame it didn't get one, but I could argue similar things about RS, the overworld sprites(and arguably physical/special split), and ORAS. At least ORAS is a good Gen 6 game, for what it's worth, and I do love me some Secret Bases.
