I'm literally just swapping immediately when the opponent gets sent out, my other pokemon takes a hit and gets 1/2 exp. Also need to grind to use dratini and other pokemon you get late with slow growth

This week I beat Black Version with a pokémon team entirely under level 50. My weakest was level 44. Both the final fights were super exciting, and I managed to clutch them out on my first try.
It's good that the games have grinding, for the little kids who need to brut force everything, but any adult who calls these games grindy is a moron.

I take it easy, avoid trainers, then the level difference makes it difficult, the only games where I didn't have this issue were gsc
Games after gen 3 do not have badge boosts so it gets a little harder

I feel dumb for ever trying to play RBY RSE using a team of 3+. Especially RSE, I constantly grinded to keep my team's levels slightly ahead of each gym leader and I still had to basically grind e4 and lose to it 50 times so I could level my team of 6 enough to beat it once.

I played silver with 6 pokemon and didn't grind; only doing trainer battles. Was fine.

I played Pokemon white with only trainer battles, was fine.

I played Pokemon diamond with only trainer battles...realized it wasn't that good of a game, but still did fine.

I also found myself not sweeping through everything, making those clutch victories all the more rewarding. There were of course parts where having type advantage still dominates, but it made me so glad I don't grind for these games.

How do you get from A to B without fighting any trainers? There's usually several that are unavoidable on each route. If that's grinding so is fighting a gym leader. If you think that just kys and save us all the trouble.
