they seem to be pretty important to the story, so i'll praise them for doing something that isn't "Evil team wants the box legendary" for the 43rd time. Also these are more comparable to Totem Pokemon, which no one really shits on the concept for, just the execution.

i'll agree that these are more gimmicky but there's at least more strategy than just clicking the button that makes you do a truckload of damage, depending on the difficulty there is the potential for some thought to be involved.

not really, you get punished for using it bc the opponent will be able to hit you for multiple turn, it's not just free damage.

This is the single most significant change to the battle system ever. It's as much of a gimmick as being able to switch Pokemon mid-battle.

Nobles look like complete shit. Literally just totems with a shitty minigame attached to them. If I wanted some real-time combat bullshit I'd just play any other game that isn't Pokemon.

There really is no comparison to be had between these are "strong move based on type once per battle", or the even worse "double HP 3 strong moves based on type, every status move is protect".

Styles have an opportunity cost in the gameplay itself. Z-moves only have themselves as the opportunity cost and there's literally no reason other than time not to use them in every match..

Because there's literally nothing at all wrong with Pokemon's core battle system.
It just needs finetuning, streamlining and balancing, not some ridiculous overhaul that fundamentally changes the format.
