It justified a return to Unova by being a sequel, with new towns cropping up over the timeskip, tons of post-game content, and a continuation of character arcs from the first game. And unlike 3rd Versions, which render the original obsolete, BW2 retroactively makes BW1 better and worth buying. It was immensely satisfying to see things like Team Plasma's caslte in shambles after 2 years, and N reformed as a functional human being. You even got bonus content like the Memory Link for linking your save files together. Or being able to catch all of the Pokemon that N released during BW1. Shit was full of soul.
USUM gutted the original plot, retconned Lusamine into an anti-hero, and barely added anything new to the map.
