It's entirely possible to wait and see before buying PLA. If it is bad, then you shouldn't buy it and if it is good, it's your money to spend as you see fit. On one hand, it might be the straw that breaks the franchise's back and causes Gamefreak to reevaluate, on the other thing, it could confirm Gamefreak's marketing strategy. Wait and see.

at this point everything has been laid out for people on the fence. if you're not interested in anything that's been revealed so far, then it's simply not the game for you. if you like what's been shown, then go ahead and buy it, but don't go into it thinking there's anything left to discover besides a few new forms and the plot elements. all of the gameplay mechanics are known.

It is entirely possible to think Legends looks underwhelming and barebones and still buy it because superficially and mechanically it is a desirable direction the series should go in.

If Legends does well, this signals to Gamefreak that they should take this new formula and expand on it and then maybe in 5 games we'll have the game Legends should have been from the start.

It is also possible Gamefreak will just take the money and think we're content with what we're getting but I think signaling positive support for Legends which is actively trying to revamp the series and do something new is different than supporting tired shit like SWSH.
