they're really just a way to classify arbitrary gameplay distribution, but technically in universe I guess they are just another type of legendary. Me personally I see a distinct separation, mythical are pint-sized generational "legends," and actual legendries tend to be large intimidating figures in the universe (nevermind Arceus is considered a mythical and you also have "pint-sized" legendaries like pixie trio)

Mythicals are becoming more and more obtainable in-game so that kinda doesn't matter anymore. Deoxys, Mew, and Jirachi are all obtainable in regular play.

You know that's not the argument. You were able to hack them before on official carts too. That's beside the point. We're talking official ease of access and it is easier to simply own save data for another game, but that's still not just something you can pick up and use in-game without those prerequisites.

It was my first legendary. Birds were my favorite type of animal at that time and I've always loved ice/snow. It also just looked neat with the little crown and fancy tail.
It might be a shit fighter after gen 1 but I'll still use it.

I was a gen 1 baby so I have a lot of positive memories of him being the ultimate badass super final pokemon that I found after beating the game
The fact that he carried me hard in both stadium games
The silly movie that gave him a tragic backstory
