Alolan E4 feels like it doesn't count but at the same time it's the only game where we personally get to know all the members except for bird chick. It might have the most memerable ones because of it.

That being said, Acerola is a fucking treasure and she better be around more. The stand out star of the game.

E4 are just glorified gym leaders. They serve no purpose other than exp fodder after you become champion. Only the Kanto and Unova ones even get characterization

Agatha thinks it's a waste of his talent to spend all his time cooped up in a lab cataloging information, and not out in the field fighting strong opponents and improving. To Agatha the essence of Pokemon training is the pursuit of strength and victory. Knowledge and bonds with Pokemon are all a means to that end. Oak's philosophy is pretty much the opposite.
