Any ideas on how to handle HM alternatives without having to resort to item replacements or ride Pokemon?
I actually don't mind HMs conceptually but I want Surf/Dive/Waterfall and the idea of having 3 Water HMs irks me a bit.

your strongest designs are your grass and fire starters, your regional bird (which imo looks incredible), the slug banana, the dreamcatchers, the facepalm goat, the second stage of that horse punching mon, the seer mantis, the golem, and some of your regionals (butterfree, fearow, altaria, lopunny)

in another thread someone mentioned an explorers of sky hack. I haven't really played any other pokemon game besides platinum and pokemon go if you consider it as a game. I want to play other mainline or spinoffs games but romhacking has always fascinated me. Any good recommendations? As long as it doesn't have horny i will gladly take anything. I heard about clover before but i dont know much about it either more than its made by guys from here.

Either be god tier on spriting or god tier on sugimori style. In most community projects, gamemakers often only look at the shit that looks good now, not what will have neat concepts or whatever. Look at sage or xenoverse or uranium or blazing emerald or on and on and on. Its all visual flare over being well implemented or conceptualized.

i only design them i dont do sprites or mimic official art styles. i wouldnt think the latter is entirely necessary for a bigger project where a different artist mimics the style that the concept artist has created. not to sound like an ass but i believe compared to others ive seen that my designs are worth my lack of interest in making them look like official artwork; its more important from a players perspective for the design to be solid since youre seeing it in game than for it to have "official" looking art. would you rather have a cool design, or a boring one but in knockoff sugimori style?

i just said i was willing to work for free, because i want my designs used. im giving free ideas...i didnt say pay me for no effort. anyway, i havent drawn many recent ideas yet (because tired of wasted effort when projects keep getting canceled) but this is one i did around xy release i think. might not appeal to everyone but thats why its best that several concept artists exist so the dex isnt made by 1 person.

it's one thing to break design conventions, but this one just doesn't look like a pokemon at all, it looks like it came from an obscure soviet cartoon
the arrowhead mons and the mirrors are also bad ways to make objectmons imo. both suffer from it just gets bigger syndrome, and lack any kind of appeal. just compare it with your dreamcatcher mon, which looks charming, quirky, colourful and most of all plausible (it fits well with mons like magneton and doublade). You should try to have more concepts to "merge together" in order to create a more compelling design, because left by themselves (unless I'm seriously missing something) putting an arrow on a stick figure just isn't very interesting.
in general, I think the whole middle chunk of your dex needs some work. There are also too many base stage mons (like the axotxl, lizard with the pointy tail, fish egg, turtle etc) which seem too lazy and have little identity of their own besides making way for their final stages. Not every base stage needs to look like a blob or have a middle evo if unnecessary - look at mons like pawniard, buizel, slakoth, houndour, poochyena, and golett. Don't be afraid to make something a little more complex for a base mon, and change up the colour schemes of your mons within its evo line, it's a very simple way to make each stage stand out, and make the evolution seem more impactful.

That's not the problem, I have worked for free in projects when I did it too, the problem is that you think that your designs are WORTH more than others because ???????? Sure, the dog is cute, but is the concept really just "cloud poodle bc haha fluffy hair=cloud"? If so then that is just surface level work. with a premise like that, you need to come up with a more interesting execution don't you think?
since they are based on cave wall paintings, you could merge them with a shadow animals theme, you could also think about adding a ghost typing or themed, or maybe even a psychic one as cavemen usually depicted on cave walls what they wished to hunt in the near future
you could also make it a split evo based on very famous cave paintings, allowing the base stage to assume very drastic changes in design, there's a lot of room for something more interesting

Never completely remove field moves, especially HMs, just be cautious of not to overtly use them as roadblocks.
E.g.: Cut is bad because you can only cut lame ass trees, so don't use it as its only clear use is to roadblock. Surf roadblocks a ton but getting it always feels earned because it tends to open so much of a map, so make it mandatory. Overall field moves that makes sense that they exist are good (surf, strength, flash, waterfall, whirpool, fly, dig) but I wouldn't make more than 3 necessary to continue the "main story", still, like the anon here >>49271248 said, they're good in optional areas.

im getting over a bad habit dating back years, of not drawing things unless i know theyll have immediate purpose, which is my only explanation for lack of art. i only just started recalling old ideas now that i feel the fangame community is connected enough to make it worthwhile, the one i plan to draw next is an armadillo but instead of a ball, its "shield" is tiers of a drill, that it draws its head inside of (the tiers extending around its underbelly, forming the cone shape, with the tip being at its tail end) to escape underground. pupuff was just the one i had done a semi complete sheet for which is why i shared it

The way I'm trying to implement them has certain types being able to perform certain actions after being properly trained, ie fighting and rock types being taught how to break rocks. It limits team builds a bit but I think it's flexible enough while also encouraging players to think ahead before exploring an area.

It doesn't change the fact that all 3 designs you've posted have been generic eeveelution body molds. You need to be versatile to design fakemon, look at OP's dex, they look generic but they aren't all espeon recolors.

So you are literally ONLY there for eeveelutions? You have to be versatile, numbskull. If you can only redraw official mons with superficial features of other pokemons or eeveelutions then you are not a designer.

no, you just associate 4 legged mammal with eevee... and as ive stated several times, i didnt draw most of my ideas because i thought it would be a waste of time. eevee-looking things tend to get more attention, so i tried drawing those above the rest. if youre expecting me to be entirely diverse (which i never said that i was) and post "cool" designs with jagged edges, i havent drawn that kind of thing. there isnt anything wrong with preferring to create "cute" designs, especially when im sure many of the cute official pokemon have aided your sexual pleasure in the past anon

Make then public domain or open use assets. Not making them exclusive to a single game bypasses that issue entirely and allows multiple games to use them, which helps make them feel more "real". (the mosquitos typing remains unaffected, and the mon "absorbed" from also does not lose their typing. it is just cloning it to the next target, so if mosquito attacks the same mon after absorbing, nothing would happen until a new mon is attacked and the typing is injected, at which point mosquito becomes empty and can "absorb" something else)

Yeah. A great deal of newer Pokemon are designed with many different colors, so they look weird when rendered with only 2. You could technically assign 2 palettes to each Pokemon, but that would be a lot of work.

Play Crystal Clear. What it lacks in outright new Pokemon it makes up for in a ton of QOL improvements and both regions open right at the start and allowing you to do whatever the hell you want in any order. It even has an interface to create your own character and inject your own sprites

I can't speak for anyone else of course. But I've done a lot of test playthroughs for debugging purposes and I find it's a different kind of experience. It might not be everyone's cup of tea but I think some people might find enjoyment out of it.

Will the events be identical to that of GSC? Or will it be set around the same time as RBY, where some things could be different if you go back a few years? Falkner's dad could be the gym leader, someone else leading the gym instead of Bugsy, radio tower is under construction, discovering the ruins of alph untouched by scientists, etc

Some of those suggestions probably go way further back than Red's timeline, but still. If you're doing it all using RBY as base, wouldn't it be simplier to just use GSC but replace all sprites, adjusting the color schemes, reverting the Special Split and how EVs works, and ditching the Steel and Dark types? Or do you want the wonky RBY bugs as well for the complete experience?

I got to the haunted ship and dropped it. Great game but that boss was too much for me. I cheated past him but felt so defeated it felt wrong to keep going.

It's overall a good fangame, definitely above average despite it's glaring flaws. It has some quite good aspects overall. The maps it takes place in feel pretty "alive", and the more unorthodox approach to a fangame (starting from the middle, move relearning/IV changing being cheap, etc) is quite interesting to play. However, it does have a laundry list of poor approaches, such as:
