Why do Gen 1 and Gen 2 have the best Artwork? It feels so much unique and stylish compared to the new generations, whereas the quality of hd might improve things, it shows to be more homogenous and repetitive, let's say without soul.

Just by comparing Pikachu from the 90s to nowadays, it feels way less unique. It might be nostalgia, but even though I know Blue and Red are too outdated, when looking at their art, it feels much more refreshing and interesting. Just by looking at red and blue game covers, I feel more the impulse to play them instead of Lets say White and Black or Sword and Shield.

Do you guys feel the artwork was much more beautiful back at the beginning or its pure nostalgia after so many years?
