I started in between gen 2 and 3 (Colosseum was my first game so I had equal exposure to both) and guys like Heracross, Hitmontop, Ampharos, Umbreon, Azumarill or Ledian are amongst my faves ever design wise. I also love the Gen 3 mons that would fit in gen 2 such as Altaria or Breloom (my fave mon), so I don't know where the appeal is but there's definitely something
