Z is a meme. There isn't that much to fix. Just let characters use proper teams of 4 - 5, and put the difficult switch from BW2 at the start of the game.

The starters were based on medieval fantasy tropes from RPGs (Chesnaught is a knight, Delphox is a witch or oracle, and Greninja is a rouge). Aegislash is a sword possessed by a ghost who chooses the next rightful king (like Excalibur from King Arthur). Furfrou is is a French poodle with various decorative hairstyles. Aromatisse is a plague doctor. Slurpuff is based on baking and gastronomy. The Fairy Type in general, and their natural advantage over dragons, is based primarily on western Fairy Tales.
