Pokemon was at the least of its popularity around 2009-2011, I remember it was stagnant at that time and the original fans went away from Pokemon, they only actually came back when it went to 3D, it drew in the older crowed. 15m copies is actually still very good

I gotta be honest, I was a teenager when it came out and it was just to much of a diversion. Seconded by the fact I didn't have my own money and it would take up a gift slot wherein I was increasingly enjoying console gaming.

Now that I'm older, I appreciate its fresh take and added some of my (now) favorite pokemon. I know Gamefreak already metaphorically burned their hand doing it once, but I'd hope they give us another where only that gens pokemon are available.

Shitty dex. The dex is the most important thing to casuals. It is one reason why Gen 4 and 6 did better then 3 and 5. Those dexs were more connect to gen 1, and the gen 1 mons as whole have the most appeal.
