Do you consider regional variants to be completely new pokemon or just the same pokemon with a palette swap? Want to know for a certain challenge.

Related but separate. If you're using the species clause, it's your choice. Most move sets and typings are different enough to keep it fun.

If you're just trying to keep it separate, why don't you try something wherein if they share a prevolution (Cubone, koffing) you can pick only one, but if the whole line is different (Vulpix, farfetched), both are okay?

I get the feeling that GF is too much if a pussy to make most of these typings on regular mons (that aren't a mega or changeable form) on account of people making fakemons with those typings for years & don't want to be bitched at for stealing ideas when they very well could make a better concept but that would require more work so dumping that into an already established mon is the safest option.

Not that I'm complaining, it's breathed new life into otherwise shitmons like Alolan Muk & Galarian Corsola.

For what they are they're newmons 2.0. Practically something like Mega Mawile or that kid that finds out Magikarp and Feebas evolve into Gyarados and Milotic respectively but more akin to Nidorans if they weren't infertile and magically different mons

Lazy and they clearly ran out of ideas, so recycle something old with a new paintjob, call it a new regional variant (which wasn't a thing in games until gen 7, and thus had no lore reason before then), and pat yourself on the back for saving time and money, because GF is a small indie company after all.

My living dex has them next to each other. I just reorganized Home to make slots for Hisuian mons. New dex numbers will go to the spaces after Calyrex.

It does make it kind weird to navigate. G-mrMime is in my Kanto box, and then Mr Rime is all the way in Galar, due to dex numbers. But its fine.

I'd be more inclined to call them new mons if they had completely new stats but most variants have either near-identical stats to the original or simply swap 2 stats around so it's closer to a form

This. While I really do like regionals, it’s clear that they came about by a brainstorm in a Gamefreak meeting about how to add more Pokémon without adding to the numbers in the Pokédex.
To answer OP, no, I don’t consider regionals new Pokémon (obviously the regional evolutions are the exception as they are 100% new).

All are recolors and i know why they exist, but you are fanboy if you think GF way is better than other games.

Remember that the only way to get these recolors outside their games is via trading with an NPC even tho we can have a dex where A Vulpix is found on a snowy Mountian while K vulpix can be found in Volcanic areas. The same for Ratata (K Rat - Day / A Rat - Night)
