They're anime characters with a condition known as "same-face syndrome." No one of any race looks like that in real life unless they have some kind of weird disorder. Plus, I think you can change hair and eye color, too (?).
Although, if I were in charge, I would've included a fully fleshed-out character creation system equipped with a color complete slider for skin, hair, eyes, clothing, and accessories.
