Nothing you do in the past will change anything in the future otherwise your character would change or be erased from existence as soon as they did anything. That means they're doing the whole "You were always going to go back in time" thing, meaning that given the world the protag is from exists in the first place, you already know whatever you do will still result in you saving the day or whatever the fuck reason Arceus dragged you back in time.
Basically, what could've been a relatively acceptable but bland story is now actively a bad one, as there are no stakes.
