Their names are as canonical as the names used for every other playable character (sans Red since that one is actually mentioned in other games, so it's set in stone).
"Rei" is as canon as "Kouki", they are different because they aren't the fucking same, retard

Their names are always the same. If you are a boy you are Rei, if you are a girl you are Araki, no game ever changed the canon name of a character depending on it being your avatar or not

Well, neither of you are quite right. If you play as the female, then her canon name is Dawn (from the future) and the boy who is actually native to the past is Rei. Or, if you play as the male, then his canon name is Lucas (from the future) and the girl who is actually native to the past is Akari. Simple as that.
