Is there any point to prepare for VGC on BDSP? Still no colosseum & it seems that everyone's still on SwSh so I'm wondering if VGC will even use BDSP at any point.

Welcome to post-Corona time.
VGC will be pushed to side because organizing live events, which were huge opportunity to sell huge amounts of merch but also huge spending for TPC, is simply too risky and troublesome.
That's why BDSP and especially PLA are so focused on single-player experience.

We were told months before release that BDSP wasn't intended to be used for competitive. There will only be fan made tournaments, and even those might disappear since most VGC players will be focusing on series 12 for Worlds. When the colosseum mode comes out I'll just have fun messing with different teams, anything is better than the current joke of a SWSH meta.
