Ive been playing it for the last five or so hours.
Its better than expected. Really interesting for sure.
Not as janky and shitty as I thought it would be, but also not close to the potential of a game like that. Like it feels like Gamefreak are still 20+ years behind other JRPG devs with some concepts. Would be good if they didnt just throw away the ideas in this instantly.

It's fun to start but gets tiresome really fast.
You're not going to move up the ranks by just catching them all, you've got to catch them all at least 25 times, beat them all in a battle at least 20 times among other things such as watching them use different attacks, evolving them multiple times and so forth.
Shit seems like a massive grindfest, but not one that's entertaining.

It looks good if you watch a stream for 30 minutes or play the leak for a couple of hours but I'm very doubtful on this gameplay loop being enjoyable for very long. If the game doesn't knock it out of the park in terms of content, I think opinions on it will turn a week or two from release.

Honestly, it's quite the opposite. Watching retardkun was fun for a bit, but after seeing how poorly and passively they played it really made me wish that I myself had the game. I can definitely see myself looking for all those spirits and trying to get as much research tasks done as possible. That type of stuff isn't for everyone, but it's definitely got an audience and above all it's optional.

To the people who have the game what are your general first impressions ?
I'm having a blast so far. I can see why people might think it's tedious but battles are fun and music is still top notch. I love just doing drive by captures. Toss 2 mons to get berries while whipping a ball at 2 more. Legit way more engaging but fuck it's got more cut scenes than Alola so far.

Not to be a wet blanket, happy you can enjoy it, but on the other hand by the second area it's already losing me. The core gameplay of catching a fuckton of everything just isn't fun. Especially against Pokemon that have an aggressive nature and require battling. I'm at the point where I'm catching one of everything and just Stantler blitzing to the next objective because it's just not fun. Will say the difficulty has been nice so far. I'm actually OHKOd relatively often despite not being underleveled at all. But it's also the same old Pokemon issue of everyone having less Pokemon than you only expanded because you're catching like 30 Pokemon every time you go out and XP is thrown at you for everything so you're easily able to throw your pokemon at the wall until you win even if some will faint.
