Why? Why is this piece of bullshit something that's so widely accepted? The Lucario movie is about as blatantly canon as you can possibly get. There's an episode in gen 4 where Dawn fucking reminds Ash that he learned how to use aura powers in the movie, then he uses them to sense a lost Riolu's aura and find him.

I think the issue is that the anime doesn't reference the movies enough. For instance, that one example you mentioned is the only movie reference I've even heard of aside from Mewtwo escaping the Viridian Gym.
Considering how often the movies deal with potential apocalypse scenarios involving legendary Pokemon, you have to admit that it's odd they're hardly ever brought up in-universe.

Mewtwo and Lucario's movies are the two movies that are the most obviously canon to the anime, as the events of the Mewtwo movie are directly shown to have happened around the same time as events in the anime, and Ash's ability to use aura is referenced as well.

The other movies are standalone, I think the Deoxys movie is referenced in the anime, but I'm not sure, since its been so long.

Then explain why there's zero mention of Ash being capable of using aura powers now that he ACTIVELY OWNS HIS OWN LUCARIO. It wasn't canon, or at the very least got retconned. Cope.

He was drawn to his Lucario back when it was still in an egg as a Riolu from it calling him via aura, and Lucario was able to wordlessly tell Ash it knew aura sphere via aura after evolving.

In Sinnoh Ash was able to locate a Riolu that was kidnapped by using aura as well.

At first I was thinking about how a lot of important people use Lucario, but Lucario itself is important and shapes the style of people with it. The og trade evos, Gyarados, and Golbat/Crobat are worse offenders in being everywhere to fill space.
