It's decently good but it's still a Pokémon game so it will have the same "issues" than any other Pokémon game. If you are ok with the idea of just playing casually, catching mons and doing random shit from time to time, you will probably like it. If you hope for the best Pokémon game of your life and never ever having any type of repetition, braindead actions, etc... then you probably shouldn't buy it and should follow what you said above because GameFreak won't improve. Story telling is still very similar to SM. Not quite as cutscene heavy (most of the time, endgame gets congested), but they still use the on-rails approach to guide you through the entire game. The story is at least broken up by your choice to do side quests or roam around and catch some pokemon in the wild areas.
