>>49364777You can jump in at any time in the series, but honestly, as a series oldfag, I say just stick with the first four or five generations. Something like Emerald or HeartGold & SoulSilver, or even Platinum would be good starts for any newcomer, only problem is that, unless you can find them and the console they're on cheap online, you're most likely going to have to emulate them. The first six games, Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and Crystal, are on the 3DS eShop, but the first three are extremely antiquated, and the latter three, while enjoyable, suffers from level balance problems, and that's coming from somone who really enjoys the Johto region. Honestly, it's all up to you, but I still recommend something like Emerald or HGSS for someone starting off.
