It doesn't matter how much content these games have, they will never be above a C simply due to them not fixing the excessive handholding and cutscenes/dialogue that people complained about the most.

How is this content filled? Because the story drags on for ages due to the movie shoved in between gameplay segments?
The postgame exploration boils down to one area, with a subpar battle facility.
Sure the ultra beasts were cool, but it’s basically a redux of SM.
Oh, and don’t forget how one of the big selling points of the game, Ultra Megalopolis, is a fucking hallway.

If you wanna be another one of the contrarians who want to find an older game in the series to praise now that people actually enjoy PLA, at least pull up a game with plenty of GOOD content, like B2W2.
-Long and involved story
-Builds on established world building in BW, without alienating new players
-Expands Unova in interesting ways, having you explore it differently in parts
-Dense postgame, revisiting old areas, visiting lots of new locations, tying up a few loose threads from the main story
-Spritework with lots of character while maintaining simplicity

Cmon man, at least think before you make a thread like this

You are right, but despite its flaws, USUM still has a fuckhuge regional dex, decent encounter tables in most areas, Poke Pelago, and a substantial postgame.

Overall I'd consider it an average game, but I can't help but lament at how far we've fallen from even it in Gen 8

Are you me? I'm juggling SMT:SJ right now alongside Pokemon actually. It takes longer to finish either, but the levity of Pokemon is a nice break from the tension in Strange Journey. If you like a game enough you'll make time for it.

It really doesn't. Most of the Pokemon in Alola's dexes for both games are just repeats in order to bloat the total number. Kalos and BW2 Unova executed the "big regional dex with many different mons" far better and without pulling that same tactic.

People shit on specifically gen 5 for having shit designs, but the vast majority of them are pretty well loved as far as I’ve seen, and B2W2 pulled in a lot of standout favorites from the series, Aggron, Lucario, and Ampharos come to mind.
Hell, even X and Y had some good designs, and the Kalos dex was pretty quality even if it was a noticeable step down from the previous gen

Bruh USUM literally has the second largest regional dex in the series behind XY and is only short of it by 30 or so pokemon. It did the massive amounts of pokemon thing that XY did but actually made it work and didn't just haphazardly throw in random Pokémon in every route for the sake of it. Thanks to stuff like SOS exclusive encounters, unique encounter tables for patches of grass in the same route, weather and time exclusive pokemon etc so that the routes didn't feel over crowded with pokemon while still offering choice

USUM is a flawed game, but still severely underrated. it desperately needed a Skip Cutscene button, and if it had that it would probably be in my top 3 pokemon games.
I love the variety of Pokemon available (including very early Larvitar and your choice of half the fossilmons). postgame is a lot of fun too. I was very pleasantly surprised when I ran into Red & Blue.
