By the time the next generation comes, it will be buzzing for the next potiental Smash.
Ignoring the transition between 4 and Ultimate, due to it's continuous development, if we look at previous games they tend to prioritize whatever Pokemon the director of smash prefers and wants to design a moveset for.
It's normally during the early phase where they're still making concepts for promotions (the movie/anime) and the games. If lucky, it might also be from last gen but likely from remakes out of the director's preference.
If the wait for the next Smash is just like pre-4, the next Pokemon will definitely come from Gen IX/X.
If the next game is a port (which is a delusional veteranfag cope scenario), it's just gonna be between late Gen 8 and early Gen 9.
Only said "director" because there's always that chance of a Smash game without Sakurai, but he's more likely to come back than Smashfags fear so.
