The animators low key want the viewers to forget that the Gen 1 - Gen 6 anime happened and you can't really blame them for that because well, they need to keep the show going, it's too big at this point to wrap stuff up.
But I have this feeling that ever since Alola the show that was being produced isn't really the ashnime anymore, it's something vaguely disguising itself as the OG show
